Craps

Craps Fundamentals

Craps is one of the most popular games that is being played at casinos these days, and is a so called dice game. When watching a game of Craps, do not be surprised by the hollering and shouting that goes on, while the game is being played. This is perfectly normal, and all part of the game.
Specially constructed tables are used to play Craps, and the game is played by using two dice. The dice, are specially devised for the purpose of playing Craps, and must adhere to strict quality guidelines for which they are inspected on a regular basis, in order to determine if the dice still meet the requirements of the game. It is normal at most casinos to replace the dice after eight hours of playing craps. In order to play the game, there is even a rule for players on how to handle the dice while playing.

The dice should be rolled, by using one hand, and for the roll to count, the dice have to hit the opposite rim of the craps table. In case the dice are thrown off, they have to be inspected first, before the game is allowed to continue.

Up to twenty players can join a game of Craps per table, where each one gets a turn to roll the dice. Another way to participate in the game is to bet on the player, who is going to roll the dice next. Several types of bets can be made. The casino staff involved are called dealers, of which there are two, one "stickman", and one "Boxman".

When starting a new game of Craps, the first one to throw the dice, makes, what is called the "Come Out Roll". In cases where this player does not win his turn, the next player gets to do the "Come Out Roll", until a player actually wins at his throw.

In cases where the player gets the numbers right, he may throw again, which again is called a "Come Out Roll", but if this player does not get it right, the dice are passed on to the next player, who gets to roll the dice, and so the game progresses. Turns are always determined clockwise, which is why every craps table has a clock built into it.

The table itself consists out of three parts; a central part, and two side parts, each on one side of the craps table. Opposite to each other are the side parts, and those hold the lines used for betting. Will the dice pass them, or won't they? These are but one, of the types of bets that are made on them. The propositions for the bets are placed into the central part of the table.

As stated, several types of bets can be made, while playing craps, which makes the game as much fun for the player whose turn it is to throw the dice, as for the spectators placing the bets on the player whose turn it is to throw. This makes craps one of the most popular casino games of the moment.
