Fairy tales about Slot Machines

Lots of tales go around about slots, some of them true whilst others would fall in to the category of old wives tales. Here follow some of the most common misconceptions about slot machines:

Slots operate by a pattern that through study can be calculated.

Slot Machines operate on random generators, from which millions of combinations are derived per minute. Did we mention the word random here? No human could possibly track such a system, and even if a computer was used it still would take years to sort out all the possible sequences, and then after the code is cracked only to find that the time it takes to push a button for a mere human being simply takes too long to hit it at just the right time.

When I left somebody played and hit the jackpot. If only I kept on playing that would have been me.

Another great misconception, only if one was able to duplicate the exact timing, movements, and actions of that person, and be able to push the button at the same split second it took for this person to push it would this be possible. Any fractional difference in the above mentioned would result in a completely different outcome.

I have played this one machine for so long it has to break the bank any time now.

The odds do not change, and since it is all randomly generated there is no time a slot machine is ready to hit the jackpot. It truly is all a game of chance. One has to keep in mind that all percentages would be based on millions of spins and for any pattern to evolve would mean playing thousands of hours and even then there are no guarantees.

This slot machine just paid out so I am not going to play it.

Slot machines are created to pay out at a certain percentage based on millions of rotations. There is no specific time it has to pay out, only a percentage. For example, a slot machine could pay out 3 times in a row and then no more for the whole day while another machine could pay out the same amount only at different times and different amounts. The keyword here is random, there is no real pattern to detect.

My chances of winning increase when it is a busy day at the casino.

It goes without saying that more pay outs occur on busy days. This is not because of any pattern, but simply because more people are playing. Remember, the slot machines are designed to pay a certain percentage based on the spins they make.

When jackpots hit is an occurrence controlled by the Casinos.

Again, this is not true due to the number generator that works at random. There is no way anybody can have any control over it after the machine is manufactured, not even the casinos themselves.
The above are all common fairy tales that go around about slot machines, but the fact remains that it is and always will be a game of chance where all that is really required is luck.
